Swimming

During the 1950s and 60s, possibly other decades too, all students in the first forms were taught (made?) to swim, no matter how incompetent or cowardly they were. One assumes Vic Roebuck's iron enforcement of this principle saved a life or two over the years. The wonderful Victorian brickwork tracery of "The Baths" is most striking - rather on a par with the Natural History Museum.
1934 - Thanks to an eagle-eyed Don Payne who spotted the date on a swimming costume.
