English Heritage / National Monuments has a number of photos of individual Burton (and surrounding villages') buildings, along with excellent architectural descriptions. They help you see what you are looking at - so to speak. It is sometimes useful to compare old photograph and postcard views with contemporary maps. This gives an idea of clearances - for example around the Town Hall, the pace of development - for example in the Winshill or Horninglow areas and, most obviously, the total dominance of breweries in the town centre - a partial explanation of the current town-centre building patterns.
