The Bandstand

The Gardens -- And the swings just outside.

By the time I played on the Grand Stride in the late 1950s, it had been joined by two fairly traditional sets of swings - one with bucket seats for the kiddies and one with the normal flat seats
on which you could stand and fling yourself heaven-wards to enormous heights, nearly parallel with the ground. A superb, huge and fearful, green, metal rocking horse had also joined the fray.
It too was ridden standing up, flinging yourself up and down trying for dear life to lift it off its stand. A potential den of horrors for accidents and sheer joy.
