Up Burton Listing Meetings

Burton (Grammar School) Archives.

Burton Archives form a part of the "Staffordshire & Stoke on Trent Archive Service". They are held at Lichfield Record Office, The Friary, Lichfield WS13 6QG. (01543 510720) and e-mail (lichfield.record.office@staffordshire.gov.uk) and are open to all. However, if you do not have a ticket or it is the first time you have used the Records you will need to bring some form of identification which includes your address.

As for any interesting material which you may have, it would be a good idea to give it or leave it in your will to the Archives. Social, historical material - such as how a mid-C20th Grammar School functioned - will be of major interest to future generations. Much important material is simply binned by thoughtless (youthful) relatives. If you are loath to donate it at the moment "loan" it to the Archives now, with the provision that it becomes the property of the Archives when you shuffle off this mortal coil. On a more formal level, you can become a "Friend" of the Archives. Fill in the form below. They will let you do exciting things like:
    - Work on voluntary projects (probably local history or help with cataloguing wills)
    - Raise money to buy materials (so it doesn't all go to the US)
    - Go to social / cultural events (mainly visits and lectures on local history)
    - Enrich the Future by preserving the Past (A harsh saying goes, "If you don't know who you are and where you're from, then you don't know much.")

For more information on becoming a "Friend" e-mail  staffordshire.record.office@staffordshire.gov.uk.  or just fill in the form below and send it back to the Record Office. The materials held on Burton Grammar School and Burton Girls High School are detailed on the Listings Page. More generally www.a2a.org.uk gives details of all archives.
